Autumn illumination at Chion-in, head temple of the Jodo sect, from November 17 to December 6, 2026. The National Treasure Sanmon gate, Mieido hall, and the maples of the Yuzen-en garden are lit up. Marking the 60th anniversary of the illumination project, the upper corridor of the Sanmon — normally closed — opens specially, and there are premium guided tours led by monks.
