The Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art's free emerging-artist support space 'The Triangle' (Northwest Entrance B1) presents Soshi Matsunobu, 12 September–20 December 2026. The artist works with elusive subjects — line, shadow, the unconscious, the background — making installations, three-dimensional works and drawings from everyday materials such as wallpaper, rubber bands and graffiti. Free admission.
Before you go
'The Triangle' is a space created when the museum was renovated, on the B1 level of the Northwest Entrance, with free admission. It serves two aims: creating opportunities to nurture and support emerging artists, and giving residents and visitors an easy way into contemporary art. As of February 2026 it had introduced 21 Kyoto-connected emerging artists; three artists are featured in fiscal 2026, Matsunobu among them.
Soshi Matsunobu was born in Kumamoto in 1988, graduated in mixed media from the junior college of Kyoto Saga University of Arts, stayed in France in 2023 as an overseas trainee of the Pola Art Foundation, and now works from Shiga. Recent shows include 'Kagu to chushushi' (A-lab, Hyogo, 2024), 'Woven, Knot' (Seoul, 2024) and 'not a house' (Paris, 2024).

- Good for
- Anyone curious about contemporary art or wanting an easy encounter with an emerging artist; students and office workers stopping by on a budget.
- How it differs
- Unlike the museum's ticketed special exhibitions (e.g. the Yamaga Seika show, ¥1,800 general), The Triangle is free and small — easy to drop into. It is not a commercial gallery but an in-museum artist-support programme; unlike the collection shows' historical surveys, it presents an artist actively working today.
Do I need a ticket?
The Triangle space itself is free to enter.
Is it a big show?
It is a small in-museum support slot — compact, and easy to see on a passing visit.
