"Candy Zen" at Taizo-in, a sub-temple of Myoshin-ji famed for its gardens. Foreign visitors can join simply by buying a candy at the temple reception when entering — though explanatory materials are in Japanese. The short zazen-style sitting that follows makes this a light, low-commitment first taste of Zen for the merely curious. The temple's renowned gardens make the visit worthwhile on their own.
