Crowds
Open irregularly-closed schedule; closes early if the monkeys return to the mountain, closes in severe weather, and closed January 1. The summit area stays open until 4:30 PM.
Good for
Families with kids, hikers, anyone combining Arashiyama sightseeing with something active.
How it differs
Unlike the Kyoto City Zoo (many species, indoor areas), this is a hike-up mountain park with wild macaques — more physical, more of an outing. Good combined with the Arashiyama bamboo grove and Togetsukyo Bridge area.
