Daigoji Temple is the head temple of the Daigo school of Shingon Buddhism, set at the foot of Mount Daigo in Kyoto's Fushimi district. Its grounds, covering some 2 million tsubo, are divided between Kami-Daigo at the summit and Shimo-Daigo at the foot. The national-treasure five-story pagoda, completed in 951, is the oldest surviving wooden building in Kyoto Prefecture, and the temple is known for the famous "Daigo Hanami" cherry-blossom party hosted by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1994.
