Eikan-do, formally Shoju-raigozan Muryoju-in Zenrin-ji, was founded in 863 and named after its seventh abbot, Yokan Risshi; it is the head temple of the Seizan branch of Jodo-shu Buddhism. It holds 58 national-treasure- and important-cultural-property-grade treasures, including the 'Amida Crossing the Mountains' painting and a gilt-bronze lotus-pattern chime. Known as 'Eikan-do of the autumn maples,' it is one of Kyoto's celebrated spots for fall foliage.
