Ginkaku-ji

Ginkaku-ji (Jishō-ji) began as Higashiyama-den, a villa built by the eighth Muromachi shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa; after his death it became a Rinzai temple named after his Buddhist name. It is open 8:30–17:00 from March to November (last entry 17:00) and 9:00–16:30 from December to February. Since 1 April 2026 the voluntary admission is ¥1,000 for adults (high school and up) and ¥500 for primary and junior high students.
