Imamiya Jinja, located in Murasakino, Kita Ward, enshrines Susanoo-no-Mikoto, Kushinadahime-no-Mikoto, and other deities. Founded in 1001 following a divine dream, it traces its origins to the 994 Murasakino Goryō-e ritual held to pray for the end of epidemics in the capital. The shrine is popularly known as the Tama-no-Koshi Shrine, and its Yasurai Festival is counted among Kyoto's three great “odd festivals”.
