Founded in 778, Kiyomizu is one of Kyoto's oldest temples and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its wooden "Kiyomizu Stage" juts 13 meters over the hillside, built without a single nail, with sweeping views over the city. Loveliest in cherry-blossom and autumn-foliage season. Open 6:00–18:00; adults ¥400. The uphill walk from the bus stop calls for comfortable shoes.
