Founded in 1606 by Nene, widow of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, in his memory, this Rinzai Zen temple is nicknamed "the maki-e temple" for its lavish Momoyama-style lacquer decoration. Its nationally designated garden is stunning, especially during the spring and autumn night illuminations. Open 9:00–17:30; adults ¥600, or ¥900 with a combined ticket for neighboring Entokuin. About 5 minutes on foot from the Higashiyama-Yasui bus stop.
