Kyoto's prefectural museum of history and culture (opened 1988) at Sanjo-Takakura. The permanent exhibition covers Kyoto's history, festivals, and treasures across three galleries; adults ¥500. The 170-seat film theater screens classics. The annex is the former Bank of Japan Kyoto branch (1906, designed by Tatsuno Kingo, an important cultural property). Near Karasuma-Oike subway station; multilingual audio guides available.
