Kyoto's municipal theater complex, originally opened as the Kyoto Kaikan in 1960 and rebuilt in 2016 to a design by architect Maekawa Kunio. The 2,005-seat main hall hosts opera, ballet, and large-scale orchestra concerts, with smaller halls for chamber music and theater. In the Okazaki cultural district, near Higashiyama subway station. The website has an English version; book early for popular shows.
