The New National Theatre's opera appreciation class for high school students brings Puccini's Madama Butterfly to Kyoto in 2026. Two performances: Monday 26 October and Wednesday 28 October, both at 13:00, in ROHM Theatre Kyoto Main Hall. Although aimed at students, same-day tickets for 28 October are open to the general public.

- No advance sales. Same-day tickets only for the Wednesday 28 October performance; the Monday 26 October performance is a sold-out group booking. All seats reserved: ¥5,500 general, ¥4,200 for 29 and under, ¥2,750 high school students. Cash only. Preschool children not admitted. Youth and student ticket holders must show age ID on the day.
The appreciation class has toured the Kansai region since 2008 and moved to ROHM Theatre Kyoto in 2016. Madama Butterfly is its most-performed work: set in Nagasaki, it tells the tragic love of the devoted Cio-Cio-San for the American naval officer Pinkerton, in Puccini's dramatic, lyrical music with direction that vividly portrays the characters' inner lives.
