Kitano Tenmangu: Joyasai and Kiribisai (New Year's Eve)

On New Year's Eve (31 December), Kitano Tenmangu holds the Joyasai, a ceremony reporting the year's safety to the deity, and the Kiribisai, in which fresh fire is struck with flint. Tradition says that cooking New Year's Day food with this fire brings a year of good health; it is known as the "Okera-mairi". The shrine's page gives no times or fees.
