Fushimi Inari Taisha Year-End Oharae and Joyasai 2026
Filed underNew Year's Eve
Fushimi Inari Taisha's Shiwasu no Oharae takes place December 31, 2026 from 15:00. Against the Minazuki no Oharae of June 30, this Shiwasu no Oharae is one of the most conspicuous surviving forms of the folk rite: it purifies sins that may have been committed in the latter half of the year and floats the katashiro down rivers and seas, so the new year can be welcomed with a refreshed heart. It is followed by the Joyasai, giving thanks to Inari for protection through a safe year, and then the year turns.
