koko kids (KCIF)
Before you go
koko kids is a regular event run by the Kyoto City International Foundation (the operator of kokoka, the Kyoto International Community House). It is held, in principle, on the first Saturday of each month from 15:30 to 17:00, in the Volunteer Room on the 3rd floor of kokoka. Each session has a hands-on theme for children to enjoy. The 3 November 2026 session is different: it is the kokoka Open Day 'kids festa' special.
- 5 December 2026: make original snow globes
- 6 February 2027: Valentine's Day theme
- 6 March 2027: matcha party
- Crowds
- A small-scale monthly gathering in a volunteer room. The 3 November 'kids festa' is part of the kokoka Open Day, so it will likely be busier than a regular session — arrive with time to spare.
- Good for
- Good for families with children who want a relaxed, hands-on afternoon, and for foreign residents in Kyoto looking to meet other international families. The foundation's own English page makes it accessible to non-Japanese speakers.
- How it differs
- Unlike a one-off tourist attraction, koko kids is a recurring community programme — it happens almost every month with a different making/craft theme each time. The November session is folded into kokoka's Open Day, so expect a bigger, more festive edition than the usual monthly gathering.
koko kids is one of the Kyoto City International Foundation's regular programmes at kokoka, its international exchange hub. The foundation publishes a full fiscal-year schedule: after the November Open Day 'kids festa', the programme continues with snow-globe making in December, a Valentine's theme in February and a matcha party in March 2027, with no session in January due to the New Year holiday.
