NAKED meets Nijo Castle 2026 is a nighttime immersive art exhibition held at Nijo Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site in central Kyoto. Staged to mark the 400th anniversary of Emperor Go-Mizunoo's historic imperial visit, the event transforms the castle's courtyards, gates, and gardens with large-scale projection mapping, illuminated art installations, and atmospheric light design after dark. Open from 18:00 to 22:00, with last admission at 21:00, it offers a rare chance to experience one of Japan's great castles in a completely new light.

Before you go

  • An immersive art exhibition across Karamon Gate, Ninomaru Palace and Ninomaru Garden, marking 400 years since the Kan'ei Imperial Visit, with Japanese-English audio guides
  • 2026: October 23–December 5, 18:00–22:00 (last entry 21:00). Held rain or shine
Getting there
Right at Tozai Line Nijojo-mae Station; from Kyoto Station via Karasuma-Oike on the Karasuma Line (per official site).
Booking
Advance purchase recommended. High school and up: ¥2,000 weekdays, ¥2,400 Fri–Sun/holidays (early-bird until Oct 22). Elementary and junior high free. Students and Kyoto residents get ¥500 back at the on-site booth.
Crowds
Entry may be limited when crowded. No entry after 21:00, and reception may close earlier depending on the queue.
Good for
Art and illumination fans, or anyone wanting to see a World Heritage site at night. English audio guide available.

  • Some paid content inside the venue
  • Nijo Castle annual passes cannot be used for this event
